I recently found a great analogy for how acupuncture works in an article by Matthew Bauer, published in Acupuncture Today: getting acupuncture treatments is like increasing watering time on a spot of lawn that has gone brown.
The body has an amazing ability to heal itself but when it doesn’t have all the necessary resources to do so, it’s like a beautiful lawn developing a brown spot. Usually adding an extra few minutes on the sprinkler system for that area, will give the lawn what it needs to gradually turn green again. Likewise, Acupuncture treatments will provide the extra support needed so that the body can do its repair work. As with the lawn, this does not happen overnight but a series of sessions will gradually bring the body into fuller balance so that it can begin healing itself.
